Trails in the directory below are grouped by general location within the park to help plan your trip while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. A more precise location is listed in the table, with directions on each individual trail page. To get a general idea on the location of a trail, check out our park map.
By clicking on the trail name you can get more detailed information, including trail descriptions, directions, pictures and maps. At this point roughly half of all hiking trails in this directory have been posted. The remainder of the trails will be added as I hike each of them.
Difficulty Rating Defined: Hiking in the Smoky Mountains can be challenging. I've provided a difficulty rating for each trail so that hikers can easily compare ratings among other trails and find one that matches their preferences or fitness level. Here's how the numbers can be interpreted: a difficulty rating of less than 5 is generally considered to be an easy hike.
