Trails in the directory below are grouped by general location within the park to help plan your trip while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. A more precise location is listed in the table, with directions on each individual trail page. To get a general idea on the location of a particular trail, check out our park map.
By clicking on the trail name you can get more detailed information, including trail descriptions, directions, key features, pictures, video, elevation profiles and maps. At this point nearly 80% of all hiking trails in this directory have been posted. The remainder of the trails will be added as I hike each of them.
Difficulty Rating Defined: Hiking in the Smoky Mountains can be challenging. I've provided a difficulty rating for each trail so that hikers can easily compare ratings among other trails and find one that matches their preferences or fitness level. Here's how the numbers can be interpreted: a difficulty rating of less than 5 is generally considered to be an easy hike. Between 5 and 10 is moderate and anything over 10 is considered to be strenuous. Click here for a more detailed explanation on difficulty ratings while hiking in the Smoky Mountains.
